(Washington, D.C.): Today, Americans United for Life mourns the loss of pro-life leader Dr. James Dobson. He is known around the world as America’s most influential evangelical leader as he revolutionized how the protestant church engaged in policy debates in the public arena, particularly on the life issue.
From founding Focus on the Family to the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute, Dobson’s commitment to preserving the family unit has been instilled in the generations who had come into contact with his message. As a renowned psychologist, Dobson understood the psychological impact of abortion and fought to protect women and their families.
On behalf of all Americans, Dr. Dobson was a respected advisor on family issues for five U.S. Presidents across the political aisle, most recently serving on the Evangelical Executive Advisory Board during President Trump’s first term.
Dr. Dobson was especially attuned to the struggles of women vulnerable to abortion and those who have experienced its emotional aftermath.” In his book, When God Doesn’t Make Sense, he writes “God’s Heart is especially tender toward the downtrodden and the defeated. He knows your name, and He has seen every tear you have shed.” In his lifetime, he authored more than 70 books devoted to the protection of the family.
