(Washington, D.C.): Today, Americans United for Life (AUL) released our annual Life List, ranking all fifty states based on each state’s commitment to life in law. In determining ranking, we factor all bioethical issues from conception to natural death, not just abortion. In a record-setting sixth year, Arkansas takes the top of the list, earning its place as the most pro-life state.
Arkansas shows a consistent commitment to life thanks to the diligent work of the Arkansas Family Council (AFC), Arkansas Right to Life and many pro-life legislators who AFC President Jerry Cox has noted having “passed at least sixty-five good, pro-life measures since 2011.” Notably, longtime champion for life Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has been instrumental in the state’s on-going success.
John Mize, CEO of AUL, stated, “We thank the pro-life leadership of Arkansas, including Governor Sanders, for their dedication to life, protecting the vulnerable from abortion, assisted suicide and any other means to diminish the dignity of the human person. Americans United for Life encourages Arkansas in their continued fight for life now and in battles to come.”
Sarah Zagorski, Senior Director of Public Relations and Communications at AUL, emphasized, “AUL is honored to come alongside the cause of life in Arkansas, helping our partners protect life as an exemplary model for other states across the nation. Other states, especially those who currently oppose life, must look toward Arkansas and strive to protect the most innocent and vulnerable among them.”
