America Deserves a Historic Supreme Court Nominee. But There Would Be Nothing Groundbreaking About Another Pro-Abortion Justice.

President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court this morning. Americans United for Life had drawn a clear line in the sand after Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement: any nominee who held either pro-abortion views or feigned neutrality over Roe v. Wade and the issue of abortion would not be qualified to ascend to the Supreme Court.

“Tragically, and literally within seconds of President Biden’s announcement, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and other abortion activists applauded the president’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson,” said Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life. “Although Ketanji Brown Jackson has not yet explicitly stated her views on Roe or abortion, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and other abortion activists see in her an ally for the moral crime of abortion.”

“Americans United for Life calls upon the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is responsible for vetting any nominee to the Supreme Court, to examine Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s record fairly, dispassionately, and thoroughly, and to elicit her explicit position on Roe v. Wade and abortion. We want comity to return to the Supreme Court nominations process, but that can only begin when Roe is reversed and the killings stop.”

“If it is true that President Biden has nominated someone based upon a pro-abortion litmus test, the Senate Judiciary Committee is duty-bound to block any nominee from advancing to the Senate floor,” said Katie Glenn, Government Affairs Counsel at Americans United for Life, “until the American people can make their voices heard on the future of the Supreme Court through the upcoming Senate elections.”

Roe v. Wade is widely regarded as the worst Supreme Court decision of the 20th century and abortion jurisprudence is widely accepted to be the Supreme Court’s most profound cultural, moral, and legal catastrophe since Dred Scott. America deserves a historic Supreme Court nominee. But there would be nothing groundbreaking about another pro-abortion justice.”

Americans United for Life calls upon President Biden, the Senate Judiciary Committee, and all those at the heart of this process to realize that America will only rise to the moral challenge of our time when we let go of the failures of our past. Where there is no justice, there can be no peace.
