Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life, issued the following statement concerning President Trump’s promise to sign the born alive executive order:

“Americans United for Life applauds President Trump’s timely and necessary executive order ensuring that all newborn children receive the care they deserve, and directing new funding toward critical neonatal research. This vital step forward will save lives and reiterates that for our healthcare system to be truly life-affirming, we must strive to welcome and care for everyone no matter their age.

President Trump’s fortitude on this issue will ensure that no children are subjected to the horrors described so matter-of-factly by Virginia Governor Ralph Northam last year when he detailed what is happening in Virginia when children are born alive in the process of late-term abortions. Northam said, “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” The only conversation taking place in the moments after the birth of a child should be how best to meet her medical needs so that she can live a long and happy life. We stand with the President in the fight to protect the basic human rights of the youngest Americans.”
