WASHINGTON, DC—On February 12th the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold a public hearing concerning review of H.R.2975, the “Women’s Health Protection Act of 2019”. This extreme bill would wipe out critical federal and state patient protections and prohibit future law or policy that would regulate abortion. Americans United for Life encourages life-affirming House members to stand up for the human right to life and ensure that life-saving patient protections are not repealed.
“We expect states to guarantee patient health and safety in medicine, and this effort by pro-abortion House members is an attack not only on those patients most vulnerable to abuse and coercion, but also on the federalist principle of respect for state law,” said Katie Glenn, Government Affairs Counsel at Americans United for Life. “The House is engaged in a power grab because they’re frustrated by a growing number of states passing laws that protect women from abortionists like the notorious Ulrich Klopfer. Americans should send a clear message to those in Washington bent on overturning the legislative priorities of millions across the states: back off.”
