Our thoughts and prayers join those of the grieving nation to honor the life and legacy of former President George H.W. Bush.
President Bush’s unwavering lifelong commitment to protecting innocent life and the most vulnerable members of our community spanned his career, culminating in his critical vetoes while serving as President of 10 bills that would have turned back the progress we have made in protecting mothers and their children and radically expanded abortion in our nation. He was a strong adversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, stating “protection of innocent human life – in or out of the womb – is certainly the most compelling interest that a State can advance.”
Although we are saddened that President Bush will not be here to see the day when Roe is overturned, his work to protect life will forever be remembered as a part of his great American legacy.
