Americans United for Life’s Corporate Counsel & Vice President of Operations, Evangeline Bartz, will testify before the Maryland Health and Government Operations Committee on Friday, March 9, at 2 p.m., encouraging lawmakers to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (HB 1424). This pro-life, pro-woman bill not only provides protections for the unborn child who can feel pain, but also protects mothers from the increased risks associated with later-term abortions.

AUL President & CEO Catherine Glenn Foster urges Committee members to vote yes on the bill, noting, “Research shows that a woman seeking an abortion at 20 weeks (five months) is 35 times more likely to die from an abortion than she was in the first trimester. This risk continues to increase exponentially as the pregnancy progresses, due to both the development and growth of the unborn child, as well as the physical changes a woman’s body undergoes in preparation for delivery.”
