“From a troubling birth as an organization committed to reducing ‘undesirable’ populations, to a billion dollar business today as the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood’s legacy as Abortion Inc. is disturbing and worsening,” said AUL’s Anna Paprocki. “Do you know how Planned Parenthood makes its money?”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (10-17-16) – “As Planned Parenthood celebrates its 100th birthday, proudly proclaiming its role in making sure that millions do not live to celebrate their own births, Americans United for Life is launching a social media campaign that examines how Planned Parenthood operates today,” said AUL attorney Anna Paprocki, an leading analyst of Planned Parenthood’s business model. “Planned Parenthood is Abortion Inc., especially during the tenure of its President Cecile Richards.”

Paprocki continued: “Under Richards’ direction, life-saving care and preventative care has been sharply reduced, while the number of abortions performed has increased. Planned Parenthood’s expanding focus on abortion as its core business is intentional.  Under Richards, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America imposed an abortion mandate on its affiliates, abortion ‘mega-centers’ have been built around the country, and millions have been spent lobbying against any regulation of its big abortion business.  We must stop wasting our scarce state and federal resources, which have increasingly fueled the highly profitable, scandal-ridden, billion-dollar industry that is Planned Parenthood.”

“Each year, fewer women choose to walk into Planned Parenthood clinics across the country.  Planned Parenthood’s overall patients have declined nearly 20 percent since Cecile Richards took the reigns in 2006. Yet at the same time, and with a half-billion dollars in taxpayer support annually, Planned Parenthood has grown the nation’s largest abortion business.  This is no accident. Becoming Abortion Inc. is Planned Parenthood’s choice.”

In light of Planned Parenthood’s troubling legacy, AUL is launching a social media campaign and on-line resource detailing the facts of Planned Parenthood’s business model, which promotes a product that harms women as well as ends the lives of unborn children.

In recent years, AUL has developed a series of special projects examining how Planned Parenthood operates.

In July of 2011, AUL released an explosive exposé, “The Case for Investigating Planned Parenthood,” which documents known and alleged abuses including misuse of federal healthcare and family planning funds, failure to report criminal child sexual abuse, failure to comply with parental involvement laws, apparent willingness to assist those involved in prostitution and/or sex trafficking, dangerous abuse of the abortion drug RU-486, misinformation about so-called “emergency contraception” including the new drug ella, willingness to give women deceptive and false information, and a eagerness to refer women to substandard clinics.

In September 2011, led by U.S. Congressman Cliff Stearns (then Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations), the Energy and Commerce Committee launched the first-ever investigation into Planned Parenthood’s use of taxpayer dollars and its institutional policies and practices – an investigation largely motivated by the troubling questions raised in this groundbreaking report.

In October 2012, AUL launched “The Planned Parenthood Exhibits: the continuing case for investigating the nation’s largest abortion provider.” The Exhibits, background papers released every day of October (Planned Parenthood’s anniversary month), document additional grounds to investigate—and ultimately de-fund— the abortion chain.  The Exhibits serve an important role in exposing the true nature of Planned Parenthood and cover a broad range of issues including unsealed “whistleblower” lawsuits alleging fraudulent billing practices at Planned Parenthood, Planned Parenthood’s health and safety violations, Planned Parenthood’s bullying of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Planned Parenthood’s lobbying and litigation efforts to oppose to common-sense abortion laws.

Additional projects, like The New Leviathan, and Abortion Inc., examined an increased abortion business-focus at Planned Parenthood under Cecile Richards’ leadership.
