WASHINGTON, D.C. (09-15-15) — “In its latest undercover video, available here, the Center for Medical Progress provides more evidence of widespread collusion among Planned Parenthood’s top officials, who joke about selling ‘fresh’ parts,” noted Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest. “History teaches us that those who commit genocide first dehumanize their victims. Watching today’s video showing so many doctors casually discussing the sale of hearts, brains, lungs and limbs of infants who died in abortion, we’ve all now seen that kind of barbarity with our own eyes. A civil society should not sell its unborn children for spare parts and experimentation.”
Americans United for Life’s legal team, in analyzing the videos to date, have detailed six possible crimes, sending that analysis to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate for consideration. On Thursday, Dr. Yoest will testify about some of those concerns before a hearing of the Subcommittee of Health of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, titled, “Protecting Infants: Ending Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Providers Who Violate the Law.” The hearing will take place at 3 p.m. in Rayburn 2123.
Further fallout from the horrific images in the video expected this week includes two important bills that could be acted upon by the House of Representatives. Americans United for Life Action will score both votes.
Regarding taxpayer support for the nation’s leading abortion enterprise, H.R. 3135, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, sponsored by Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) would place an immediate moratorium on all federal funds Planned Parenthood receives for one year while Congress investigates Planned Parenthood for possible violations of law regarding fetal tissue collection for sale or donation.
Also expected this week is a House vote to add stronger legal protections to the “Born Alive Infants Federal Protection Act” sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) by adding penalties if medical personnel do not act to save the life of a baby who survives abortion.
Regarding possible violations of law, statements made in the videos raise probable cause that Planned Parenthood violated one or all of the following federal laws concerning:
- Receiving valuable consideration for providing fetal tissue
- Altering abortion procedures to obtain fetal tissue
- Obtaining informed consent for fetal tissue donation
- Performing partial-birth abortions
- Killing infants born alive after an attempted induced abortion, infants who are persons entitled to legal protection
