WASHINGTON, D.C. (11-19-13) – Americans United for Life’s President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest applauded a decision today from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, in which he denied Planned Parenthood’s request to suspend Texas’ commonsense abortion law requiring that abortion providers have admitting privileges at a local hospital and regulating chemical abortion. The denial allows the favorable decision from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals last week in Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas Surgical Health Services v. Abbott to stand.
“The Fifth Circuit saw through Planned Parenthood’s shallow arguments, choosing to act in the best interest of Texas women by regulating the abortion industry,” said Dr. Yoest. “Women have died when given chemical abortion drugs against the advice of the FDA, and women have died when emergency care following an abortion was not quickly provided. Protecting women’s lives and health – inside or outside of an abortion clinic – should be an area of bi-partisan agreement.”
