“Our model legislation is specifically tailored to confront the current trends in Big Abortion’s overreach,” said AUL’s Dr. Charmaine Yoest. “The scandalous behavior of this destructive industry must be confronted, and the eighth edition of Defending Life equips legislators to do just that.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/21/13) – Building on a proven track record of legislative successes, Americans United for Life released the eighth edition of Defending Life, with the theme:“Deconstructing Roe: Abortion’s Negative Impact on Women.” AUL President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest said that this edition provides a template for “rolling back the excesses of Roe v. Wade that has left women and girls vulnerable to the scandalous behavior of Big Abortion.”
“Our model legislation is specifically tailored to confront the current trends in Big Abortion’s overreach,” said Dr. Yoest. “Defending Life is a game changer, constitutionally sound legislation that can rewrite the laws of the nation to protect life.”
The tools in Defending Life are strategic measures that will protect women and girls from the harms inherent in abortion and from the increasingly predatory practices of the scandal-ridden abortion industry, empower families and individual Americans with information and life-affirming options, and ensure that pro-life Americans can exercise their conscience in opposition to the goals and agenda of Big Abortion.
Defending Life is an indispensable tool for the intellectual advancement of a culture of life. In the last two years alone, AUL has helped enact nearly 50 new pro-life laws – about one-third of all pro-life laws enacted in 2011 and 2012 – and much more is in the pipeline for 2013.
Dr. Yoest observed that even before the latest edition of Defending Life became available, legislators have already been calling for cutting-edge, life-affirming resources. “Notably, over the past two years, we have responded to nearly 3,000 requests for our model legislation and our legal team has been at work in 39 states,” she said. “We are confident that we have forward momentum carrying us into the 2013 state legislative sessions.”
Already active in state legislative sessions, AUL and AUL Action are currently working in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia.
Most-requested model legislation includes requiring the abortion industry to maintain the high patient care standards common to other medical facilities and to inform women and girls of the dangers of abortion and life-ending drugs. Also of growing concern, Obamacare’s violation of Americans’ First Amendment Freedom of Conscience, the topic of two amicus briefs filed this week by AUL’s premier legal team and a concern that is addressed in several pieces of protective AUL model legislation included in Defending Life.
