“Our model legislation is specifically tailored to confront the current trends in Big Abortion’s overreach,” said AUL’s Dr. Charmaine Yoest. “The scandalous behavior of this out-of-control lobbying force must be checked.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/7/13) – Building on a proven track record of legislative successes, Americans United for Life released a preview edition of our well-known guidebook of model legislation, Defending Life, unveiling a special package: “Confronting Big Abortion in the 40th Year of Roe.” AUL President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest noted that the seven, unique bills out today will give lawmakers “the tools to protect women, girls and the unborn from an unregulated, unsupervised, and profit-hungry industry that consumes almost $1.5 million a day in taxpayer subsidies, diverted from hard-working American families.”
“Our model legislation is specifically tailored to confront the current trends in Big Abortion’s overreach,” said Dr. Yoest. “These strategic measures protect women and girls from the harms inherent in abortion and from the increasingly predatory practices of the scandal-ridden abortion industry, empower families and individual Americans with information and life-affirming options, and ensure that pro-life Americans can exercise their conscience in opposition to the goals and agenda of Big Abortion.”
Dr. Yoest noted: “In the last two years alone, AUL has helped enact nearly 50 new pro-life laws—that’s about one-third of all pro-life laws enacted in 2011 and 2012. And we have a tremendous tidal wave of life-affirming legislation in the pipeline for 2013. Notably, over the past two years, we have responded to 2,500 requests for our model legislation and our legal team has been at work in 39 states. We are confident that we have forward momentum carrying us into the 2013 state legislative sessions.”
Already active in state legislative sessions, AUL and AULA are currently working in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, and West Virginia, according to AUL’s Vice President of Government Affairs Dan McConchie. Next up, AUL’s GA team will be distributing today’s release to lawmakers nationwide.
Following the Planned Parenthood v. Casey decision, AUL’s premier legal team has aggressively pursued a strategy of rolling back and reversing Roe through model legislation. Crafted by AUL’s attorneys, the seven pieces of model legislation out today include:
- The Women’s Health Protection Act
- The Abortion Patients’ Enhanced Safety Act
- The Abortion-Inducing Drugs Safety Act
- The Women’s Ultrasound Right to Know Act
- The Parental Involvement Enhancement Act
- The Abortion-Mandate Opt-Out Act
- The Healthcare Freedom of Conscience Act
