(Washington, D.C.): Today, Americans United for Life (AUL) joined Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and 76 other leading pro-life organizations in a letter calling for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to stop opposing pro-life efforts to protect women from the abortion pill.

Recently, the DOJ filed motions to stay or altogether dismiss cases against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in three separate cases which, if granted, would delay or deny justice for women harmed by the agency’s deregulation of the abortion pill, mifepristone. Now, under the new leadership of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the DOJ has the opportunity to correct the record. The letter sent by the Pro-Life Movement asks for the DOJ to stand with these women and allow pro-life states to enforce their protective laws.

John Mize, CEO of AUL, stated, “The DOJ has an obligation to deliver justice for the most vulnerable, even if that harm originates from within the federal government itself. Standing in the way of states seeking justice for women in their borders not only perverts that justice but seeks to prolong the harm done to women. The DOJ must reverse course by fighting for women and preborn children instead of keeping them in harm’s way.”

Sarah Zagorski, Senior Director of Public Relations and Communications, added, “As a lifelong Louisiana resident, seeing the DOJ stand against our strong, pro-life laws at the detriment of women is deeply distressing. Women like Rosalie Markezich, one of the plaintiffs in Louisiana v. FDA, deserve justice. We are thankful for pro-life leaders like Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill who continue to fight for these women. Americans United for Life is proud to stand alongside her.”
