(Washington, D.C.): Yesterday, the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC), a partner with Americans United for Life (AUL) on the Stop Harming Women campaign, released its newest analysis of the all-payer abortion claims data set.

EPPC’s most recent findings suggest a strong correlation between the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) removal of in-person dispensing requirements formerly required under mifepristone’s Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) protocol and the rate of serious adverse events women experienced.

According to the data, the rate of serious adverse events was 10.15% when in-person visits were required under REMS. The rate of serious adverse events increased to 11.50% when these requirements were removed under the Biden FDA. According to EPPC, this represents a “statistically significant difference of 1.35 percentage points and an increase of 13%.” EPPC also maintains that the data also points to increased incidence of missed ectopic pregnancies absent in-person dispensing.

John Mize, Chief Executive Officer of AUL, “Women depend upon health and safety regulations that are based on science, not politics. Requiring in-person visits for drugs with ‘black box’ warning should be the standard of care, and mifepristone should not be a politicized exception. Successive analyses by EPPC have continually pointed to the lack of scientific motive underlying the Biden Administration’s removal of in-person dispensing requirements from the REMS protocol. President Trump must act to, at minimum, reinstate these requirements and prove to American women he is different from his predecessor.”

Sarah Zagorski, Senior Director of Public Relations & Communications for AUL, emphasized, “Stories of women have already told us of the increased harms the removal of in-person requirements has posed to women, and this analysis backs up story with science. Ectopic pregnancy is already a difficult enough diagnosis for women, but to remove in-person requirements that are coupled with ultrasounds to rule out ectopic implantation is unconscionable. Politics should never trump standard of care practices that are proven to save women’s lives.”
