(Washington, D.C.): Americans United for Life (AUL), alongside leading partners including the Ethics and Public Policy Center, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, and the Family Policy Alliance, is urging President Trump, Vice President Vance, Majority Leader Thune, and Speaker Johnson to not be “flexible” on Hyde.
John Mize, CEO of AUL, emphasized, “The Pro-Life Movement is unified in ensuring our national leaders do not compromise on the most basic federal pro-life provision, preventing forced taxpayer funding of abortion. President Trump has called for Republicans to ‘own’ the healthcare issue going into the midterms, and discarding Hyde by passing an extension of the status quo only lets Democrat extremism force Americans to fund abortion, including ACA Marketplace plans that cover abortion, against their conscience. The majority of Americans are on the side of Hyde, and our elected leaders should be, too.”
Sarah Zagorski, Senior Director of Public Relations and Communications for AUL, added, “Abandoning Hyde is not a policy adjustment; it is a moral rupture. Permitting even one public dollar to fund abortion subordinates the value of human life to ideological expediency and political power. Such compromises corrode conscience, normalize the unthinkable and erode moral limits. History is clear: when foundational boundaries are treated as negotiable, the decay that follows is deliberate, predictable, and uncontained.”
