(Washington, D.C.): Led by Americans United for Life (AUL) and Family Policy Alliance (FPA), everyday Americans from all 50 states and the District of Columbia have delivered a letter addressed to President Trump demanding direct and immediate action to address the serious safety concerns of the abortion pill.

Public consensus stands that 71% of likely voters are in favor of reinstating in-person dispensing requirements prior to abortion drugs being dispensed to women. In a call to end the political games that have allowed access to the abortion pill to trump the safety of women, Americans are asking the Trump Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to, at minimum, restore the in-person dispensing requirements and safeguard women from mail-order abortion.

John Mize, Chief Executive Officer of AUL, stated, “The FDA has the duty to protect the health and safety of all Americans, especially the most vulnerable, as an extension of the Executive office, not to withhold those protections as a piece in political games of either party. Our message to the Trump Administration is simple: be a better protector of women’s health than the failed, partisan policies of his predecessor. In-person dispensing requirements are commonsense and favorable among a supermajority of the public and should be restored without further delay.”

Craig DeRoche, President & CEO of FPA, emphasized, “Inaction on the abortion pill signals to women in every state and across the political aisle that their safety is not a priority. Real-life experiences of women tell the tragic story of abortion pill deregulation and Americans now know the devastation putting access over care. The Trump Administration must act now to protect women and safeguard their health.”
