(Washington, D.C.): In an address to the House GOP, President Trump calls for Republicans to be “flexible on Hyde,” compromising on the issue of taxpayer funding of abortion through federal healthcare spending.

John Mize, CEO of Americans United for Life, stated, “As we approach the 50th Anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, we cannot abandon the most popular pro-life provision of all time. With the most recent polling showing nearly 6 in 10 Americans supporting Hyde, to compromise on the issue now would not be the win President Trump predicts it will be. Instead, it will leave the Republican Party in pieces, fractured and without a base strong enough to win important battles for life in coming years.”

Sarah Zagorski, Senior Director of Public Relations and Communications, emphasized, “If the pro-life movement has not been clear, let there be no mistake: there will be no compromise on the Hyde amendment. President Trump has historically supported Hyde, and any attempt to reverse or obscure that record risks derailing the movement’s moral clarity. Ending the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion allows resources to be redirected to ensuring real support for women, children, and families.”

Americans United for Life stands staunchly behind Hyde, reminding President Trump and Congress that Americans should not be forced to fund abortion against their conscience.
