(Washington, D.C.): Americans United for Life (AUL) is privileged and pleased to announce that the Center for Client Safety (CCS) has become a division of AUL and will be serving as the enforcement arm of the organization. This unification will provide a shared vision for justice, accountability, and the protection of women and their preborn children.
For too long, the abortion industry has escaped accountability, not only through negligence by state and local officials, but also through loopholes, weak enforcement, and willful disregard of the law.
Whereas AUL has been fighting for life in law and policy for more than fifty years, the Center for Client Safety has been the only organization in the nation ensuring those laws are enforced: that government agencies hold abortion facilities, and their providers, accountable to laws and regulations.
CCS has pioneered a strategy involving direct investigation of abortion businesses, agency collaboration, and persistent pressure for enforcement that has led to the closure or operational shutdown of multiple abortion facilities since 2020. With a proven record, efforts by CCS investigations have led to professional disciplinary action of three abortion doctors, secured fines and disciplinary actions against several abortion businesses, and even prevented the doors of new abortion facilities from opening.
To date, CCS investigations have led to the closure of abortion facilities including Florida’s American Family Planning and Venice Women’s Health Center. Working with AUL, the Center for Client Safety exposed and closed a legal loophole in Wyoming that will prevent dangerous abortion facilities from opening in the state. This work also led to the temporary closure of the state’s only abortion facility that may result in permanent closure depending on the result of ongoing litigation.
The Chief Executive Officer for AUL, John Mize, said, “Today, Americans United for Life is celebrating our new partnership with the Center for Client Safety to further our mission in protecting women by holding the abortion industry accountable through enforcement and the implementation of repercussions permitted under the law.”
Amy Gehrke, the Chief Impact Officer for CCS, added, “Together, the Center for Client Safety and Americans United for Life are closing the deadly gap between laws on paper and lawlessness inside abortion facilities. CCS uncovers violations and ensures accountability; AUL drives policy change. Our new partnership will turn the evidence we gather into even greater action, shutting down abortion facilities, protecting women, and saving innocent lives.”
David Bereit, Founder of 40 Days for Life and Executive Director of the Life Leadership Conference, welcomed the move as an important advance for the pro-life movement: “As someone who helped strategize, launch, and advise what is now the Center for Client Safety, I could not be more excited to see it become part of Americans United for Life. Uniting these two efforts into one is a powerful step that will accelerate enforcement and expand opportunities for impactful litigation, holding the abortion industry accountable for dangerous practices that harm women and end innocent children’s lives. Together as one, they are uniquely positioned to protect more women, save more lives, and bring long-overdue accountability to an industry that has operated in the shadows for far too long.”
Americans United for Life will continue to stand for women and their children, fighting for life on all fronts and advocating for families everywhere. Roe may be in the past, but the fight for life rages ahead.
