The current platform draft defends the rights of preborn American children.
The current draft of the Republican National Convention includes language in defense of the right to life:
We proudly stand for families and Life. We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied Life or Liberty without Due Process, and that the States are, therefore, free to pass Laws protecting those Rights. After 51 years, because of us, that power has been given to the States and to a vote of the People. We will oppose Late Term Abortion, while supporting mothers and policies that advance Prenatal Care, access to Birth Control, and IVF (fertility treatments).
Chief Executive Officer John Mize said, “Any presidential administration must act to protect human life. We were glad to see the RNC take up this language in defense of preborn American lives. The Republican platform has historically stood for the rights of preborn children and we’re happy to see that this election cycle will be no different. We support the approach taken by the RNC.”
AUL has worked closely with the RNC on developing platform language that preserves reference to the Fourteenth Amendment while updating the language to our post-Roe world. Mize continued, “We remain enthusiastic about the need to focus on winning hearts and minds on the abortion issue in the states, while at the same time uplifting women and families with federal policy that makes having and raising children an easier equation in our current economic and inflationary situation.”
In addition to providing advice for the RNC, AUL is making efforts to communicate policies with the DNC that support life-affirming and pro-family positions.
