WASHINGTON, DC— Americans United for Life has filed a friend-of-the-court brief today on behalf of 1st Amendment champion David Daleiden in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life, said:

David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress are champions for the First Amendment and heroes of modern-day journalism. The CMP investigations were ambitious, effective, and informative; those are standards which we should expect all journalists to aspire to meet every day. Thanks to David’s brave work, the nation knows what Planned Parenthood really cares about. Not women’s health. Not access to care. Plain and simple, Planned Parenthood is in it for the money. We stand with David and all of the victims whose trauma at the hands of the abortion industry has been unearthed because of the vital outcome of these investigations.

Steven H. Aden, Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel at Americans United for Life, added that Mr. Daleiden stands on strong legal ground:

“The journalistic investigations of David Daleiden were a highly sophisticated fact-gathering operation modeled on a reputable news operation and propelled by years of controversy over the role of elective abortion in the fetal tissue procurement industry, and specifically Planned Parenthood’s leading part in it. The Center for Medical Progress videos directly resulted in de-funding efforts against Planned Parenthood by the House of Representatives and over a half dozen states, and numerous federal and state criminal and regulatory investigations into Planned Parenthood affiliates. I am confident that the Court will side with Mr. Daleiden and stop Planned Parenthood’s effort to silence critical but truthful speech.”
