WASHINGTON, DC—Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life, issued the following statement regarding Congressional approval of omnibus spending and pandemic relief legislation:

Americans United for Life is proud to stand with the pro-life advocates in Congress who worked hard to ensure that the Omnibus funding and pandemic relief bill contained life-affirming protections that will ensure no taxpayer money is funneled to the abortion industry.

As we look towards the Biden administration, it is imperative that common-sense protections like the Hyde amendment persist, as they have for over 40 years through partisan administrations of all stripes.

As long as Congress shows a continued interest in direct relief programs, Americans United for Life underscores the urgent necessity of thinking more creatively and holistically about how to ensure no woman feels pressured to make the choice for abortion. As audacious as Kanye West’s appearance in the presidential race was, his so called “Plan A” for alternatives to abortion remains one of the most forward-looking policy proposals that truly could save lives. Professional politicians should take notice.

Americans United for Life (AUL) is a nonprofit, public-interest law and policy organization that holds the distinction of being the first national pro-life organization in America—incorporated in 1971. It protects and defends human life from conception to natural death through vigorous legislative, judicial, and educational efforts.
