Steven H. Aden, Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel at Americans United for Life, issued the following statement responding to President Trump’s updated list of possible Supreme Court nominees:

“President Trump’s envisioned Supreme Court nominees continue to be constitutionalists devoted to restoring the human right to life and putting an end to the fatal violence of abortion. America is in desperate need of more jurists like Justice Clarence Thomas, who recently observed that Roe v. Wade continues to operate “without a shred of support” from our Constitution. The role of the United States Supreme Court is to fairly apply the law, not write the law, or read into the law their preferred policy outcomes. The Justices of the Court are not kings, philosophers, or lawmakers — they are judges. President Trump continues to highlight constitutional luminaries, any of whom would be a positive, life-affirming addition to our Republic’s highest Court. If and when one of these qualified Americans is nominated, Americans United for Life looks forward to vigorously supporting their nomination.”

Americans United for Life (AUL) is a nonprofit, public-interest law and policy organization that holds the distinction of being the first national pro-life organization in America—incorporated in 1971.
