Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s tragic decision in June Medical Services v. Russo:
“The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision strengthens abortion businesses at the cost of women’s lives. Chief Justice John Roberts confirms with today’s decision that threats against the Court work. When Sen. Chuck Schumer’s threatened the Court and its justices, John Roberts forcefully asserted his independence. Today’s decision suggests his bark is louder than his bite. Today is a tragic day for Louisiana and for women who deserve more, and a disastrous moment in American history for our once-independent judiciary. A brighter day lies ahead, but much work remains for Americans who care about the human right to life. We will win this fight
Those of us in the fight for the right to life know better than most that the road to justice is often long, painful, and riddled with disappointment. Today’s decision by the Supreme Court in June Medical Services v. Russo is one of those disappointments. Abortion has so warped the identity and goals of the Court that they were willing to prevent communities from protecting women from receiving a substandard level of healthcare. While the Court may still be stuck in 1973, reluctant to give up its place at the center of the debate over life in America, the fact that the Court even heard this case is an impressive sign of the vitality and dynamism of the cause for life. Across our great nation, life-affirming protections are being signed into law at a rate unseen in a generation, and Americans are turning away from abortion in principle and in practice in the greatest numbers seen since before Roe. Passion and truth are on the side of life. Just like our fight for civil rights for all Americans, the road may be long, but our cause is right. Justice will be had in our time. I will continue to work towards the coming day when all are welcomed and cherished throughout life and protected in law. ”
