Last week was another bad week for abortion giant Planned Parenthood, as two major developments occurred in the ongoing investigations into their scheme to sell baby body parts.

First, the Department of Justice opened a criminal investigation into Planned Parenthood’s “fetal tissue donation” program. The investigation was revealed after the Senate Judiciary Committee, which had previously recommended criminal charges against Planned Parenthood, was sent a request for un-redacted documents from their earlier investigation into the program.

AUL President and CEO, Catherine Glenn Foster praised the Department of Justice for opening a formal criminal investigation, saying:

“Americans United for Life is encouraged that the question of whether Planned Parenthood has been violating both state and federal laws prohibiting the sale of baby body parts is being taken seriously by the Department of Justice. We hope that this confirmation of an FBI investigation will lead to stricter enforcement of laws meant to protect the inherent dignity of human life. We likewise hope that this unprecedented investigation will uncover the truth and ensure that women and their unborn children are protected from the dangerous motivations behind this criminal conduct.”

The second piece of bad news for Planned Parenthood came when it was announced that DV Biologics LLC and their sister company DaVinci Biosciences LLC, had reached a settlement in their California state criminal case. Both companies were investigated by the Orange County District Attorney’s office after being implicated in the Center for Medical Progress videos that uncovered the abuses within Planned Parenthood’s “fetal tissue donation” program. As part of the settlement, DV Biologics LLC and DaVinci Biosciences LLC were ordered to pay $7.8 million in penalties, cease all operations in the state of California within 120 days, and formally admit liability for unlawfully selling fetal tissues and cells for a profit.

Hopefully, this bad news for Planned Parenthood will result in good news for the American taxpayer: Planned Parenthood must be defunded. Our taxpayer dollars should not go to an organization being investigated for illegally profiting from the broken bodies of innocent human lives. Women and children deserve better.
