“We are creating the winning formula for reversing Roe,” said AUL’s Dr. Charmaine Yoest

WASHINGTON, D.C. (1/22/13) – Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest said Tuesday on the 40th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that AUL’s legislative strategy of creating model legislation that erodes the flawed reasoning of Roe “is undermining a flawed and fatal decision that has led to the deaths of more than 55 million unborn children and harmed a generation of women. AUL has a winning legal strategy that is gathering momentum and overtaking a losing proposition.”

Dr. Yoest continued: “On this sad day we have to wonder who we are missing? With so many women and their unborn children injured and lost to abortion, we reflect on the importance of pressing on.  We remain determined to advance a sound legal strategy and committed to working toward a day when every person is welcomed in life and protected in law.”

As the nation’s oldest national, pro-life organization founded in 1971, the legal team of Americans United for Life has been involved in every life-related case before the Supreme Court beginning with Roe v Wade. AUL went on to develop “the prolife playbook,” Defending Life, a guidebook of model legislation for office holders who want to enact reasonable limits on abortion.

As a result of Roe, the United States is one of the four nations with the most radical abortion policies in the world. The U.S. stands with North Korea, China and Canada in allowing abortion through all 9 months of pregnancy, for any reason (such as sex selection) and sometimes with government subsidies. Most of the world’s 195 nations limit abortion after 20 weeks because of the dangers of that late-term procedure.

“We are advancing the winning formula for reversing Roe,” said Dr. Yoest, noting that with the release of AUL’s Life List, a ranking of the 50 states, it is clear that legislative progress is rolling back Roe. For more on the Life List, click here.

The 2012 state legislative year produced significant victories for Life across the United States, building on 2011’s historic progress and laying the groundwork for future victories in 2013 and beyond.  Through its state representatives and other significant relationships with state-based allies, AUL actively worked in 39 states to enact life-affirming laws and to defeat anti-life initiatives.  In 2012, AUL realized several important victories for life, including the enactment of 19 life-affirming laws.
