Media Advisory: 20 years after the Supreme Court’s Historic Casey Decision Americans United for Life Hosts Legal  Symposium Deconstructing Casey’s  Impact on Abortion Law

Distinguished panel to address the failures and successes of Casey
at National Press Club

WASHINGTON, D.C. (05-21-12) – In advance of the 20th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Americans United for Life will host a luncheon symposium featuring a panel of legal experts who will discuss the significance of the decision. AUL is uniquely positioned to analyze Casey: as the legal arm of the pro-life movement, AUL has a track record of pro-life victories achieved in part by strategic use of Casey and evidenced by AUL’s model legislation, available in Defending Life, now in its 7th edition.

AUL President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest is hosting the event and will address Casey’s specific impact on women. The panel, including Michael Paulsen, Erika Bachiochi, Clarke Forsythe, and William Saunders will evaluate the Casey decision; the failure of  pro-abortion equal protection arguments; the 20 years of medical studies demonstrating that the Court erred in arguing that women’s reliance on abortion has been beneficial; and how Roe can ultimately be reversed.

Casey is an extremely flawed ruling, but it has had a powerful impact on our modern legislative landscape,” said Dr. Yoest. “This event will evaluate Casey, which was an important mile marker on the road to reversing Roe v. Wade.”
