WASHINGTON, DC— Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life, released the following comment regarding President Biden’s decision to rescind the Mexico City Policy:
The Mexico City Policy is a cornerstone, protection for human life that preserves the conscience rights of the supermajority of Americans who reject the funding of international abortion. Polling that came out just this week, show 77% of Americans oppose the funding of oversees abortion. Imposing a policy that a super majority of Americans, and even a majority of Democrats rejects means President Biden will fail his own pledge to unify our country. This is an extremist position that fractures and hurts vulnerable women, like I was when I had an abortion at just 19 years old. Science and embryologists know that every one of us begins our life at conception—at the precise moment of sperm-egg fusion. Every abortion violently ends the life and future of one of our brothers and sisters. Politicians need to get out of the business of interfering with science and our human rights. America already has some of the most extreme abortion laws in the world. We should not be exporting our extremism internationally. Our allies and friends deserve better.
