Americans United for Life Acquisition of the Center for Client Safety

We are excited to share that the Center for Client Safety is now a division of Americans United for Life (AUL), a strategic step that will strengthen our ability to hold abortion providers and their facilities accountable, as well as protect women and preborn children nationwide.

At Americans United for Life, we strive for the day where every human being is welcomed with love and protected by law. AUL has decades of experience shaping policy, defending life in court, and protecting women and their babies through strong laws.

Yet, we are in a shifting landscape with the reversal of Roe v. Wade and the explosion of the abortion pill market. The profitable abortion industry continues to evade the law because of enforcement loopholes across the country.

Our partnership with the Center for Client Safety will bring enforcement power to AUL, through direct investigations that lead to real consequences for the abortion industry. Together, AUL and CCS are uniquely positioned to ensure life-saving laws are not just passed but fully enforced.

The abortion industry has a well-documented record of violating state laws and regulations while providing substandard medical care within their facilities by their clinicians. Since 2020, CCS has led numerous investigations that have resulted in the closure or complete operational shutdown of multiple abortion facilities. CCS’s investigations have also stopped three abortion providers from practicing and secured fines and disciplinary actions against several abortion businesses.

Vice cannot be practiced virtuously, and most abortion facilities are operating outside of the law. CCS is the only pro-life organization solely focused on holding abortion businesses accountable to basic health and safety standards as well as other laws. They specialize in uncovering serious violations, documenting harm to women, and initiating government investigations that result in license suspensions, facility closures, and critical regulatory reforms.

Commonly asked questions about our new partnership:

Why did CCS become a subsidiary of AUL?

CCS joined forces with AUL because we believe collaboration makes us stronger. As one of the most respected legal voices in the pro-life movement, AUL brings legal, policy, and operational support that will help CCS expand our investigations, enforce accountability, and reach more states, without compromising our mission or independence.

Will CCS still operate as its own organization?

Yes. CCS remains operationally distinct within the AUL structure. Our leadership, strategy, and day-to-day work continue as before, now with the added benefit of AUL’s infrastructure and legal resources.

Is the CCS mission changing?

Not at all. CCS was founded to stop abortion providers from harming women, killing children, and skirting the law, and that mission remains unchanged. We will continue to investigate, document, and force action by government authorities, just as we always have.

Who is leading CCS now?

CCS continues to be led by Missy Martinez-Stone, Amy Gehrke, and Christine Smith. Leadership from both CCS and AUL are working closely to ensure that the partnership strengthens both organizations.
