Clarke Forsythe, Senior Counsel at Americans United for Life, joins Noah Brandt to discuss his book Abuse of Discretion: The Inside Story of Roe v. Wade and the fiction of abortion rights as a matter of constitutional law. Although people have heard the phrase “Roe v. Wade,” polling shows that very few Americans can explain what Roe means. Roe set the United States on a radical course, making America one of just four nations in the world that allow abortion for any reason after viability—the point at which a human person would otherwise survive without the support of her mother. Abortion continues to roil America because of the U.S. Supreme Court’s errors in its 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, and our body politic will continue to suffer until the Supreme Court reverses Roe and returns the issue to the American people through the democratic process.
