Today, the Missouri House passed HCS HB 46 & 434, a bill that bans coercing a pregnant woman into getting an abortion. Additionally, the bill enhances the state’s informed consent law by allowing women to view and hear an ultrasound prior to getting an abortion, and gives women information about the pain their unborn child feels during an abortion.
President Obama signed an executive order today authorizing more federal taxpayer spending for human embryonic stem cell research, overturning limits on federal funding for such research in place since 2001.
This week, the Obama administration moved to rescind U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rules mandating enforcement of and compliance with existing federal laws that protect the civil rights and freedom of conscience of healthcare professionals. The targeted rules were implemented by the Bush Administration in December 2008.
Americans United for Life (AUL) today released its sixth annual ranking of the most and least pro-life states. Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and South Dakota top the ranking, while California, Hawaii, and Vermont ranked lowest.
In its controversial 4-3 decision on marriage, the California Supreme Court also decided, for the first time anywhere in the United States, that as a matter of state constitutional law, sexual orientation is a “suspect classification” deserving of heightened protection.
