When I was 20 and a junior in college I became pregnant. I was in a long distance relationship and searching for love.
My boyfriend wanted me to have an abortion. He didn’t want a baby to raise for 18 years and he was involved in some drugs. He would pay for the abortion.
I was so ashamed and afraid of telling my parents. My mom’s reaction was rejection and telling me I had made her look bad. She was so disappointed in me. She wanted me to give the baby up for adoption. Her words were, “A baby was going to ruin my life and I would never reach my dreams.” My dad was a little more supportive and wanted me to keep the baby.
I was full of fear and alone. I didn’t know what to do or where to turn. I decided to have the baby and had a beautiful baby boy.
A social worker walked with me through the journey and was there for me during birth. I was able to finish college with the support of my teachers. My college instructors provided some of my needs without me asking. They provided me the courage and strength to go on.
Today my son, has blessed me with two beautiful granddaughters.
