Catherine Glenn Foster on Leana Wen, a physician putting politics ahead of women’s health

The following statement is from Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life:

“Planned Parenthood’s new president, Leana Wen, might wear a white coat, but she puts partisan politics ahead of women’s health,” said Catherine Glenn Foster, President and CEO of Americans United for Life. “While pushing for on-demand abortion, she fails to advocate for basic, common-sense health and safety protections, illustrated by her abysmal and tragic record of fighting STDs as Health Commissioner of Baltimore. Maryland now has one of the highest diagnosis rates in the country for syphilis and HIV/AIDS. Without irony, Wen further hails the ‘life saving work’ of the nation’s biggest abortion network even though Baltimore’s African-American community has been decimated by abortion.”

“As if that weren’t enough, Wen openly and consistently denigrates the First Amendment by attacking conscience rights. She refers to the principled decisions of doctors and nurses to refrain from the destruction of innocent human lives as ‘refusals,’ and teamed up with NARAL in the attempt to force pro-life pregnancy centers to refer for abortions. Rather than continuing its descent into partisan politicking and scaremongering, Planned Parenthood needs to catch up with the rest of the medical world by providing mammograms, obstetric care, and holistic primary care. And it must finally dedicate itself to improving women’s health rather than ending the lives of more than 300,000 children every year.”
