AUL applauds introduction of parental consent bill in Nebraska legislature

Washington, DC – (1/21/11) – Today Americans United for Life celebrated the introduction of LB 690, a Nebraska bill which will require parental consent before an abortion may be performed on a minor.  Senator Lydia Brasch is the lead sponsor of the legislation.

Suzanne Gage, State Director, AUL Nebraska, said “I am encouraged by Senator Brasch’s endeavor to move forward valuable pro-family legislation that will help protect the health and welfare of young women and protect the rights of parents to raise and counsel their daughters.”

AUL is working with Nebraskans to upgrade their “parental notification” law into a “parental consent” law.  A parental consent law advances key state interests: protecting the health and welfare of minors and protecting the constitutional right of parents to rear their children.  Parental involvement laws are supported by the majority of Americans, regardless of their positions on abortion.
