Law students from Georgetown University Law School gathered to hear William Saunders, Senior Vice President and Senior Counsel at AUL, speak on “The ABCs of an International Right to Abortion” yesterday afternoon. Saunders discussed the push by abortion advocates to “create” an international “right” to abortion. “Given the United States Supreme Court’s control over abortion and its increasing reliance on international law,” Saunders stated, “if abortion is considered a customary international right, this issue could not only be taken completely out of the hands of the American people, but even out of the realm of American jurisprudence.”
The lecture was hosted by Georgetown Law’s Advocates for Life Chapter. AUL Summer Fellow and Georgetown Advocates for Life President Catherine Foster reflected on the event: “I am delighted that Mr. Saunders spoke at Georgetown on the alleged international ‘right to abortion’ and ABC v. Ireland, which some have termed ‘the potential Roe v. Wade of Europe.’ It is a timely topic and ripe for discussion.”
