Attempts to Remove Federal Funding of Planned Parenthood

Last week, Senator Brownback sent a letter to the appropriations committees in the House and Senate requesting the suspension of federal funding of Planned Parenthood. The request comes in the wake of a 107 count complaint filed in Johnson County, Kansas, accusing Planned Parenthood of performing late-term abortions in violation of Kansas law. The letter was signed by 12 other senators. The full text is available on Senator Brownback’s website.

In the House, Indiana Congressman Pence introduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which would prohibit the distribution of Title X family planning funding to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. On the House floor, Mr. Pence said, “There is simply no reason in the world why the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans should be used to underwrite abortion providers in this country.”
