Dan McConchie is a passionate participant in America's legislative process. While the thought of enduring congressional discussions on CSPAN induces drowsiness in many people, Dan engages the legal system with enthusiasm and conviction. His interest in the process was fueled by an internship in Washington, D.C. during his college years, when he began searching for the right cause to champion. “I wanted my hard work to mean something, to create a lasting change,” Dan recalls. “What could be more lasting than the preservation of human life?”
With this career destination in mind, Dan directed his energies toward equipping himself to advocate intelligently and effectively for pro-life causes. In 1998, he earned an M.A. in Bioethics from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, graduating Magna Cum Laude and receiving two honorary awards from the university—the Professor C. B. Bjuge Award and the J. C. Olson Memorial Award. His undergraduate degree is in Biblical Studies with a minor in Philosophy at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Dan also attended the Fund for American Studies’ Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University in 1993, interning with The Center for the Study of Popular Culture, and attended the Fund’s American Institute on Political and Economic Systems at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic in 1995.
As Vice President of Government Affairs at Americans United for Life (AUL), Dan is heavily involved in AUL’s public policy efforts. A longtime bioethics professional, he has been featured regularly in the national media including MSNBC, FOX News, PBS, NPR, BBC, and nationally syndicated radio. He has often been quoted in major publications such as the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, San Francisco Chronicle, and Christianity Today. Dan is a frequent speaker at legislative events and civic functions.
Before coming to AUL in 2004, Dan was director of public relations and public policy at The Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity, overseeing the Center’s media and public policy projects.
Dan served for 9 years in the Army National Guard in the infantry and military police. He currently lives with his wife and two daughters in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois.
